Just to add to Pete's post, if you want to count both the dates 29 March and
5 May, append +1 to the end of the subtraction. ie:
A1= 29/03/08
A2=5/05/08
=A2-A1+1
gives 38

Just subtract the earlier from the later and format the cell as
General or Number.
