Calculating hours elapsed when date/ time > 24 hours

I am trying to calcualte the time in hours and minutes between cells. The
simple subtract function works when the dates are the same but I am having
complications crossing the 24 hour mark.

cell 1 cell 2 formula
result
4/1/2009 09:55 4/2/2009 08:57 =cell 2 - cell 1
23:02

problem
cell 1 cell 2 formula
result
4/1/2009 09:55 4/2/2009 15:46 =cell 2 - cell 1
05:51

Can someone please help me with the correct formula?

Format the result cell Custom as [hh]:mm
