The ACWP is based on the actual cost you enter, either as percent complete or
through entering actual hours.

BCWS is the cost that should have been incurred based on the schedule - if
you had a two week task and your at the end of the first week, the BCWS would
be half the budgeted cost.

The BCWP is based on the "Physical % Complete" that you enter - it's the
measure of your progress. MS Project defaults to setting BCWP equal to ACWP.
You have to change the calculation default to have it use the Physical %
Complete. (This was a new learning for me this week)

hi Karthick,

These fields used in Earned Value Analysis are defined below along with the
description of how MS Project calculates these fields:

The BCWS (budgeted cost of work scheduled) fields contain the cumulative
timephased baseline costs up to the status date or today's date.
To calculate BCWS for a task, Microsoft Office Project 2003 adds the
timephased baseline costs of the task up to the status date.

The BCWP (budgeted cost of work performed) fields contain the cumulative
value of the task's, resource's, or assignments's percent complete multiplied
by the timephased baseline costs. BCWP is calculated up to the status date or
today's date. This information is also known as earned value.
When a task is first created, the BCWP is 0.00. As soon as a baseline is
saved and progress is reported for the task (as actual work, actual duration,
or percentage of work complete), Microsoft Project calculates BCWP. This
calculation is based on the percentage of work complete, as compared with the
task's baseline duration. Project then calculates the cumulative baseline
cost and provides the value of what the task's actual costs should be, given
the task's progress to that point in the task's baseline duration.

The ACWP (actual cost of work performed) fields show costs incurred for work
already done on a task, up to the project status date or today's date.
When a task is first created, the ACWP field contains 0.00. As progress
(percentage of completion or actual work) is reported on the task, Microsoft
Project calculates the actual cost of work performed (ACWP). This is the cost
of actual work plus any fixed costs for the task to date. By default, how and
when ACWP is calculated depends on the assigned resources' Standard Rate,
Overtime Rate, Per Use Cost, and Cost accrual settings in the Resource
Information dialog box, as well as the actual work reported, fixed costs for
tasks, and the status date or today's date. Project can calculate ACWP even
if you do not have resources assigned. In this case, the calculations are
based on progress (percentage of completion or actual work) and fixed costs
to date for the task. If you prefer, you can have ACWP calculated based on
your entries in the Actual Cost (timephased) field.

Kind regards,

Earned Value (EV) or the Budgeted Costs of Work Performed (BCWP): The
physical work accomplished to the As-of Date or the Status Date.

Planned Value (PV) or the Budgeted Costs of Work Schedule (BCWS): The
baseline, or the physical work scheduled (planned) to the As-of Date or the
Status Date.

Actual Cost (AC) or the Actual Cost of Work Performed (ACWP): Total costs
incurred as a result of accomplishing the work to the Status Date.
