Calendar changes on specific task/resource

I must be doing something wrong. I am the Administrator and I have a
project mgr who needs a 24 hour calendar on some tasks in his project.
The 24 hr calendar is indicated on the task but doesn't that mean the
resources assigned must have a 24 hr calendar too? I have given this
Project Mgr the same rights as a Resource Manager to change working
time. He will change the calendar for the resource, save the project
and close. When he reopens the project the resource calendars are set
back to Standard. How can we schedule a task with assigned resources
to work a different schedule?

No one can permanently edit resource calendars in a project. The editing of
resource calendars is done on a global level in the Enterprise Resource
Pool. Hope this helps.

I want to be sure I understand. The resource calendar is changed on the
Enterprise Resource pool only. A resource cannot have different
calendars on different projects, for example, work a 24 hr calendar on
a testing project and a standard 8am-5pm calendar on all other
projects.... Is that right? So if I change the calendar to the 24 hr
calendar then that resource will show a 24 hr calendar on all
assignments regardless of what project they are assigned to. That
right?

Yes, the resource calendar can only be changed in the Enterprise Resource
Pool. There is no way for a resource to have different calendars on
different projects.

If you wish to force an alternate working schedule for one or more tasks in
a specific project, you would need to apply a Task Calendar to each task
with the alternate schedule, and then select the "Schedule ignores resource
calendars" option in the Task Information dialog. Thus, if you assigned a
resource to a task, set the 24 Hours calendar as the Task Calendar for that
task, and selected the "Schedule ignores resource calendars" option, the
resource would be scheduled to work 24 hours per day for the life of that
task. Hope this helps.

Out of curiosity, how do you get people to work 24 hours a day on task work?

The project manager is managing a plan for hardware testing. This
causes these tests and upgrades to be done by the staff outside of our
regular business hours. Their normal worktime is 8am-5pm however they
will be scheduled around the clock - such as for a Disaster Recovery
test.
