Calender time not the same as task time?

J

Jeroen

Hello

I set up my standart calender with workday from 08:15-12:30 / 13:00-16:45.
When i link a resource to this calender and to the tasks.

I made a test with a week with every day one task with one day
duration. Now the first day is start 28-04-2008 / 08:15 and end
28-04-2008 / 16:45. The other day gave me start 29-04-2008 / 08:00 and
end 29-04-2008 / 17:00 (and so on with the other days).

Why ar not all the days from 08:15 - 16:45? And how can i change it?

Hello Jeroen,

Do you set that time as working time for all days through Tools > Change
Working time? If you are using Project 2003 or earlier, you need to select
all Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays by clicking in the
calendar heading (M -> F) and then editing the working times.

If you are using Project 2007, choose Tools > Change working time, click the
Work Week tab and then click the Details button. Click and drag to select
Monday through Friday and then change the working times.

I hope this helps.

Yes Julie that works. Can i the way this work make a special calender
for one resource? For example for resource 1 always a work day from
08:15 - 19:00?

Hello Jeroen,

If you add Resource 1 to the Resource Sheet, you can double click on
the resource's name to open the Resource Information dialog. If you
are using Project 2003, click the Working Time tab and change the
resource's calendar as directed below. If you are using Project 2007,
double click the resource's name to show the Resource Information
dialog. Click the "change working time" button and change the
resource's calendar as detailed below under the 2007 directions.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Hi Jeroen,

Okay, a quick recap:
1) You've modified a calendar with the working times you need.
2) You've assigned the modified calendar as the project calendar
through Project > Project Information.
3) You've modified the Calendar options in Tools > Options, Calendar
tab to a default start of 8:15 and default finish of 16:45. You've
set the definition of hours per day to 8 hours and the definition of a
week to 40 hours.
4) You've created the resources and selected the modified calendar as
the base calendar for the resource. You've then modified the
resource's calendar to extend the working hours from 16:45 to 19:00.
5) You've assigned the resource to the task.

If you enter the task duration of 1d, it will only schedule 8 hours of
work (correctly) as that is the definition of a day that you set. If
you wish the resource to work his/her full "day" you'll need to set
the duration to 10.25 hours.

If your tasks are all starting at 8:00 am, double check the start time
of the Project through Project > Project Information. It's possible
the project starts at 08:00, not 8:15.

I hope this helps.

I still wont get it. i did ik like you sad. I don't see any differences
between the task with the resource with the stanard calender and the
resource with the calender with more hours a day. He calculate the cost
also the same.

Isn't it possible to select the resource with the more hours a day and
then give automatic that it is 10.25 hours a calculate the richt cost
(8hours normalrate and 2.5hours overtimerate)?

Please help. I do something wrong but don't know what.

Thanks

Hello Jeroen,

Project will not assume the extra hours are overtime unless you
specifically enter the overtime work.

Are you showing time as well as date information on your tasks?

What happens if you create two new tasks in the project, and set both
with 2 days duration.

On one task assign the resource with the regular 8 hour per day
calendar from 8:15 to 16:45. The task should begin at 8:15 on day 1
and end at 16:45 on day 2.

On the other task, assign the resource with the 10.25 hour working
day. The task should begin at 8:15 on day 1 and end at 14:30 on day
2.

Do you see the difference in end times?

If the task is only 1 day (8 hours) duration, you won't see any
difference as both resources can work 8 hours per day.

I suggest splitting your screen to view the Task form in the lower
part as well. This should help you see the number hours of work for
each resource and can also be used to assign overtime.
