Can anyone clarify Microsoft Office 2007 End User Service Agreeme

ArthurQ

I am considering upgrading to Office 2007 (Probably Standard version as it
includes Outlook) but I can't figure out how many computers I can legally
install it on when I buy it. Microsoft's web site says one thing (1 plus a
portable) and the boxes in the stores for the retail version of Standard and
Standard Upgrade indicate it is licensed for up to 3 non-commercial
computers. Of course Office Professional says 1 computer on the web site and
3 on the box in the store. Any clarification would be appreciated – Thanks

The *only* version you can install on three systems is the Home and Student
suite. The other retail versions state one computer and one portable used by
the primary user of the computer.

The Home and Student Version is 3. The OEM versions are 1. And the other
Retail versions are ONE desktop and one portable only used by the same
person.

Thanks for the rapid response - I am still confused as to why the boxes in
the stores say "3 computers" for all the versions??

I think that's a good question!

Is the "up to 3" stuff on a sticker, or is it printed somewhere on the box
itself or what?

I haven't seen the box in question, maybe a close reading of the text
will reveal the answer. Or is it maybe a promo sticker on the box that
someone stuck on incorrectly?

That's what I was thinking -- maybe a batch of boxes got mis-stuck. :)

Here's hoping Arthur comes back and clarifies so we can find out about this
for sure.

Not to sound ignorant but is a laptop a protable device?

Thanks everyone for the dialog. I agree based on the EULA on the Microsoft
website. I checked 4 stores today - Staples, Best Buy, CompUSA and Office
Depot in Clearwater, Florida and every box of Office 2007 Suite said "3
non-commercial compters". Some of them must have been "full Retail". The
price for Office Standard was about $400 and the Standard Upgrade was about
$239. All said "3 non-commercial computers" on a note on the outside of the
display box. - Strange

Help, Arthur -- what do you mean by "a note" on the outside of the display
box? Is it a sticker that looks like a Post-It note or something?

I'd really like to track this down, but I can't even begin without some help

To follow up on this, a friend, colleague (all around good guy <g>) looked
reallllllly closely at his retail Office 2007 box and figured this out.

On the back of the box, there is a table explaining what is in each Office
2007 suite (retail versions).

Below the table there is a note with the "3 computers" text -- there's an
asterisk in front of it and also by Office Home and Student in the table. So
this text is specifically referring to Office Home and Student.

That's why you're seeing this on every box.

I know that a few versions ago (I forget which one), there was a misprint on
an Office upgrade box that affected PowerPoint users, so I like to
double-check these things. :)

Wow! Thank-you for following up on this question. Sure enough I went back
to Staples and there was the asterisk infront of the note and beside the
"Student and Home" version. I guess I'll blame it on being born in the
1940's and having "old eyes". Thanks again. - ArthurQ
