Can Grow/Can Shrink Question.... I think!

David

I have two fields in the detail section of an Access 2007 report which need
the CAN GROW property set to YES on the field.
When CAN GROW is set to YES in field 2 and 1 the second record is pushed to
the second page. This only occurs on the first page of the report. The CAN
GROW property works correctly on all other pages.
The report should contain record 2 on the first page. Instead I end up with
50% unused white space on page 1. Again this does not afect any other
pages...just the first page.
FYI..CAN SHRINK is set to yes on both fields as well.
Suggestion? Any help anyone can provide is appreciated?
Thx.

Also..it appears it may be linked to the SORTING and GROUPING OPTIONS. When
I removed the SORT the problem disappears entirely. I then sort descending
instead of ascending and the problem does not exist. Resetting the SORT to
ascending causes the issue to return.
I removed the data record to ensure data corruption was not causing the
issue. The problem is not data related.
I can reproduce the issue on any record(s) just by switching…
1. The SORTING option to ASCENDING.
2. The CAN GROW property of 2 fields in the detail section are set to YES.
3. Ensuring the 2nd record in the report is > at least 1 page length.

When all these conditions exist together the second record of the report is
pushed to the second page leaving unused white space on the first page of the
report. If I sort descending the white space is not produced on any other
pages within the report. This appears to be a undocumented SORTING &
GROUPING feature in ACCESS 2007.
Hopefully, though this is just user error and someone can set me straight on
what options I need to select to prevent this.
Thx.
