Can I Add a New, Valid Part of Speech for a Word?

I sometimes have to use the technical term "via" as a noun (it is a
well-known term describing an object on a printed circuit board that makes a
connection between different layers, and is used as a noun) , even though no
dictionary accessed by Word recognizes this part of speech as being valid.
Can I make a setting that will cause Word to permit noun as a valid part of
speech for "via".

No.

Word's grammar checker, unlike the dictionary for the spelling
checker, has no ability to change or extend the rules it uses.

Many people feel the grammar checker isn't worth using, because it's
far too limited and raises too many false error flags.

I used to run into that exact problem a lot. I used to be a printed circuit
board designer. Sometimes you just have to accept the fact that certain
technical terms are not going to be recognized.

What you could do, however, is create a character style defined as "Default
Paragraph Font + Do not check spelling or grammar" and apply it to words or
phrases you don't want checked.

I didn't realize that you could specific a specific word as not checked.
That's pretty cool. A lot of embroidery and beading terms are troublesome.

shoulders of giants."
