Can I add predecessors in a master project file?

I have a master project file with five sub-projects embedded in it. In the
sub-tasks I would like to reference, as predecessors, some of the tasks
carried in the master file itself.

The ID column repeats itself, so I get random results when I try to show as
a predecessor a task from the master file using the ID value.

Is there any way to make this work? Thanks in advance.

Select the task that will be the Predecessor.
Hold down the Ctrl key and then find the task that will be the
Succcessor
Let go of the Ctrl Key
then do either of these:
In main menu, Edit, link tasks
Press the link icon
Press Ctl+F2
