Can I autoconnect on startup of Outlook like Outlook Express?

Do I have to be online when I open Outlook 2003 before sending/receiving
messages? There doesn't seem to be any way of automatically telling it to
connect and can I autoconnect on startup.

Choose Options from the Tools drop down menu. Click on the
Mail Setup tab. Your dial-up options are in the lower
one-third of the dialog box.
