Can I change the color of the background in print layout view?

Currently the "desktop" behind the print layout view is always a medium
gray. Can this background color be changed? How? Thanks for suggestions!

Only by changing the Application Background color in Windows Control Panel |
Display | Appearance; this will affect all applications.

To add to Suzanne's answer: be very careful changing these settings as the
results can sometime surprise the inexperienced!
