Can I change the product key after I have installed?

I recently installed Office XP on a PC, provided a 25-
digit key and when you run Office for the first time it
prompts you to register the product. All of things are
expected. When I fill in the necessary info it tells me
that this product is already registered. The user has
multiple copies of XP and I believe one of those copies
has found it's way onto the PC and therefore has already
been registered. I need to change the product key without
removing the Office suite. Is it possible.

use one of the keys from one of the multiple copies ? and
when it installs write the system number on the CD used.
Keep a note of the key for future use
