can i convert a document created in wordpad to microsoft office?

A document created with wordpad was e-mailed to me. I do not have wordpad on
my computer. When I open the Document I get hylographics. is there any way I
can open this document? maybe convert it to another program?

Are you sure the was created in WordPad?

is a utility that is installed along with the following Operating Systems:
Windows 98 / ME
Windows 2000 (workstation and server)
Windows XP (home and pro)
Windows Server 2003

If you have any of those Operating Systems, you have (or should have)
WordPad.
