can I create a mouseover screentip in MS Word without hyperlink

I'd like to create a screentip or mouseover popup in MS Word (mouse over a
word displays the definition) without using the hyperlink mode or,
alternately, how can I remove the default bold "Ctrl + click to follow link"
that appears at the bottom of each screen tip creating via the hyperlink mode?

No on both counts. If you're trying to do things that call for screentips or
mouse-over effects, then you shouldn't be using Word. Word is primarily
designed for creating documents. A lot of bells and whistles have been added
over the years, but it's never been a good method for on-screen delivery of
the finished product.
