Can I do this?

J

JL Amerson

I am a beader and I've noticed something that I'd like to work into my
websites. When I put my mouse on a graphic I get the little
save/print/email/scan icon grouping in the upper left corner and *sometimes*
there is an icon in the lower right that allows me to click on it and get a
larger image.

I'm not sure where this feature is coming in but I'm hoping I can do
whatever is needed to allow others viewing my website to to the same. Is it
an IE6 thing or what? What can I do so that others CAN see the pictures I
post more clearly? (How's that for a change! I actually want people to see
and print the pictures.)

IE6.

Hi,
What's a beader?

IE does this by default for large pictures - there's an option under Tools -
Internet Options - Advanced - Multimedia - Enable Automatic Image Resizing.
As the default is yes it's safe to assume most users won't have changed it

That is a feature of IE.6, and the thingy
with 4 arrows only appears if IE.6 has automatically
"resized" the size of the image from the "actual" size
on the server.

JoAnn,

I believe the control to get a larger image is a result of having "Enable
Automatic Image Resizing" turned on in IE. You can check this:
- Click "Tools | Internet Options..."
- Select the "Advanced" tab
- Under "Multimedia" you should see that "Enable Automatic Image Resizing"
is enabled

If you clear this checkbox, you won't get the resize button any longer and
all of the images you view in your browser will be their real size.

From the description for the option:
"Specifies that you want Internet Explorer to automatically resize large
images so that they fit in the browser window."

Personally, this is one of the first things I disable when I'm setting up a
new computer. I just prefer to view the files in the original size and
quality every time. It's the same file before and after clicking on the
resize button. IE just scrunches it to fit on your available screen space.

I work with beads and Swarovski crystals. (I also do needlework.)

So there's nothing special that I have to do to enable this for others
viewing my site? That's a good thing in that it's less work for me. I really
like the feature - it allows me the change to see how something was worked.
Provided the orginal photo was good to start with.

You could always create a thumbnail and hyperlink to the original? Don't know if that's the effect you're trying to create

J

JL Amerson

Nope - not the same thing but thank you for answering.

I also believe this is the case for IE 5.5 and maybe to IE 5.0?
