Can I enter a number as a category?

I am trying to keep a record of how many tickets I give away for an event
and would like to record this against contacts in Outlook. What is the best
way to do this?

Roady [MVP]

Well adding them to a specific category like "Ticket" is indeed a good idea.
You can then sort by category and easily se who you gave a ticket to.

thanks - but can I enter a number - say the category is "Edinburgh Event -
ticket sales" and I want to record 10 tickets against that person - is that
possible?

Sure, you can enter anything as a category. Just a number might be hard to
sort so I suggest that you add them to 2 categories. One named Tickets and
another one with the number of tickets so you can still sort on a common
category.

Or use the built-in BillingInformation field to hold the number of tickets.
If you add it to a view and set the view for in-cell editing, you can type
the number right into the view.

Great - is it now possible to total this field so I can keep a running total
of sales?

Not in Outlook. (Think about it: Where would Outlook show the total?) You
can select all, copy and paste the contents of the view to Excel, though,
and do the total there.
