Can i get Word to automatically compress an inserted image?

I want MSWord 2003 to automatically compress inserted images to print
resolution. Our company is about to deploy microsoft office 2003 to a few
hundred workstations on which a lot of employees choose to ignore the fact
that they have to compress images before insertion. This leads to a lot of
problems with filesize and uploading those images to webservers and
e-mailservers.
Is there a way to fix this? Maybe with group policy or registry edit?

Hi Jeroen,

Word automatically stores the image in pretty much its disk file size when you use Insert=>Picture=>From file. The additional
'compress' feature is applied after insertion and may or may not reduce the file size. It depends on the graphic contents, as to
whether it lends itself to compression (i.e. graphics with large areas of a single color will show more reduction than one that is a
photograph or a detail drawing). It can also be affected by the original, inserted graphic file type as well. but keep in mind that
if you compress a graphic further, it's not reversible and there can be a loss of quality.

This article may help a little,

Hi Bob,

thank you for the response, but it's not exactly what i meant. I want to
prevent people from uploading and saving word documents with 2 to 10MB jpegs
inserted. So I thought maybe there is a way to automatically compress those
images when inserted. Off course i tried and educate the users but they just
keep inserting images without compressing them by hand.
