I DID A COMPLETE INSTALL OF WINDOWS 7 PROFESSIONAL. CAN I INSTALL OFFICE 97?
IF I CAN, WILL I BE ABLE TO UPGRADE OFFICE 97 TO OFFICE STANDARD 2007?

First please lose the caps lock - it makes your post difficult to read and
is the Usenet equivalent of SHOUTING.

Secondly even if you can utilise Office 97 as an upgrade qualifier, I would
strongly advise you, if you can afford it, to purchase a Retail version of
Office 2007.
Why? Because if you need to re-install an upgrade version and have lost or
damaged your 97 CD then you are well stuck.

You dont need to install the earlier version in order to install the upgrade
version, you simply need the earlier version cd available to insert when
your 2007 installation complains that it cannot find a qualifying product

And as Gorden says, if you lose the qualifying version cd and you need to
reinstall you will be stuffed

First, lose the Caps Lock, it is the equivalent of shouting. Install
Office 97? You won't break the operating system if you try, but some
stuff will fail to work properly and it is way past any support from
Microsoft. As to Upgrade, 97 isn't qualifying software, so no, you need
the full 2007 version, but it will open your files.

bug

If you install office 97, Windows 7 UAC will no longer work. Even afte
uninstalling office 97, the uac slider still does nothing. There is n
fix (at the moment) other than doing a system restore. Don't do it

Edit

Actually, the user interface will stop working, but you can still us
this tool to change uac
