Hi Gail,

You didn't mention what product or version you're
using, but generally, you can use a MS Office Upgrade
CD on a new computer if you have the CD or installed
product of one of the qualify-for-upgrade products
available. Activating Office 2000 or Office XP may
require use of the telephone activation method if
you're moving it from another computer.

Here's more on the statement of the problem:

I had Office installed on past computer (purchased 2
years ago)with probably XP Professional op system. New
computer (purchased 12/02) has XP Home. Office
Professional 2000 was originally installed by computer
mfg when I bought old computer. Didn't buy it again when
I bought new computer thinking I surely didn't need to
buy software again just because I upgraded my computer.

I have attempted to load on new computer from the
Office2000 upgrade disk (special edition?)which checks
for eligibility. I flunked with Excel, but other
programs are operable. Looking at the file directory,
Excel program is there but it gives me an error message
when I try to execute it.

Gail.
