Can I make a selection when opening a document

Hi there

I have a document with 8 different templates on it. What im looking at doing is to when opening the document I need it to ask what template you would like to use and then go to that one when selected and input data as required.

Your terminology is contrary to how it is normally understood in a Word environment. A template is a special file format you create a document from; a document cannot contain templates. See:

For what you're trying to do, you might do better, to save each of these 'templates' as a true Word template, giving each a meaningful name, then choose which one you want to create a document from in each case.
