Can I make "Next Slide" go to an assigned slide number?

Can I somehow assign an arbitrary slide to be the "next slide", rather than
the next sequential slide?
I want to set up hierarchical topics, and want the top-level slides to
advance to the next slide st the same level. Also, I want sub-topics to
return to the corresponding topic slide.
Custom shows can help with this, but they don't nest (do they?).
