Custom Slide shows - Slide Numbering

D

Don

Suppose a I have a complete presentation that includes 10 slides, each with
the slide number in the footer.

Now suppose I set up a custom show with slides 1,2,5,6,and 10.

I can certainly run the custom show, but when it's run, the ORIGINAL slide
numbers appear in the show. A smart audience will know that slides have been
skipped. I would expect the slides to renumber 1,2,3,4,5 based upon the
custom show, but that is not the case. Can anyone lend any insight to any
solution?

The user does not want to remove slides numbers, if at all possible.

Thanks in advance,
Don

Custom shows do not effect the slide numbering.

You can hide the slides that you do not want to show and use the 'do not
number hidden slides' option, but that kinda defeats the custom show option.

I would suggest just not displaying the slide numbers.

Thanks for the reply Bill. I appreciate it. I can't seem to find that
option however. I am using PowerPoint 2003. I've looked under View > Header
and Footer, but cannot find anything.

Replace the text number 1 in the slide number placeholder with the auto text
slide number as I described in the previous post.

So, the full steps look like this ...

1 Open Presentation
2 Click on View => Masters => Slide Master
3 Select the text number 1 from within the slide number placeholder
4 Click on Insert => Slide number
5 The text in the slidenumber placeholder should now look like this '<#>'
without quotes
6 Close Master view (on the Master tool bar)
7 Save presentation
