to make a copy of your .pst file as a backup and then hex edit your
original copy. Maybe you won't feel so scared hex editing a file for
which you made a backup. Then if the edit screws up the file, you've
got your backup copy.
I use the freeware Hex Editor from HHD Software
(http://www.hhdsoftware.com/hexeditor.html). I'm sure UltraEdit is good
but it is shareware (30-day trial, $35 to buy).
