can I save data onto another computer without using a server?

I have an old 256 that I want to use as back up storage and wanted to know
how link my existing computer to this one without having to acquire any new
hardware. Is this possible?

if you're talking about a 256 meg pendrive then you can share it in Windows
Explorer and access it from remote pc's using the format of
\\computername\d$ where d is the drive letter

1) via cable between the two
2) If both have ethernet connectors, via a reuter
3) As the software on one may not work on the other, simply remove old hd
and use as slave, storage, on the other

Couple problems here. One, this isn't a feature or function of Office.
And two nobody has any idea of what hardware you DO have. So given the
amount of information you provided, the answer will be no you can't.
Linking requires hardware of some type.
