Can I select certain messages not to be archived?

I have a number of messages that are in my follow up folder, but I don't want
to archive. Is there a way to set a "Do Not Archive" flag on these messages
without have to go back through manually and put them in my active folders
again?

The archive feature is a global option. Unless it is enabled, archiving
never happens. That doesn't mean a folder gets archived, only that it
is eligible to be archived. Right-click and look at the properties for
a folder. Archiving must be enabled on a folder for archiving to be
employed there. Think of it like a master breaker and wall light
switch. You don't get the light turned on in your room unless the
master breaker is closed, but you still have a choice of on or off for
the room light using the wall switch.
