Can I Stop serivices to Re-extend sharepoint?

I was hoping that someone might help this holiday weekend with a quesiton on
a problem with sharepoint / project.

I recently installed project 2003 and sharepoint on the same box. There is a
problem with sharepoint synch with project and project connecting to
sharepoint. There are no sharepoint templates to choose from in project. The
public doc site appears not to be created. Along with the four custom
sharepoint groups.

Sharepoint appears to be working normal as well as project other than the
above problem.

When an attemp is made to reinstall the sharepoint / project extension it
fails. What are some options? is there a switch that I can use to recreate
the public site along with the other missing items. Should I stop the project
services and reattemp the install of the sharepoint / project extension. Do I
have to uninstall project then extend and reinstall?

Please advise and thanks in advance

Are you using Windows SharePoint Services (WSS), or SharePoint Portal?

One of the most common problems I have seen, is that someone will go
"lickity click" through the options installing SharePoint. When I install
WSS with SP-1, I install the Project template from the Project Server 2003
disc, before going on to install Project. Even when I install all components
(WSS, Project Server 2003, and SQL 2000) I install WSS with the "Server Farm"
option. I have always just reimaged a system and started over when a client
has messed up the installation.
