can i upgrade from home edition to xp pro ?

we are running office pro and home edition and I need to setup a small
network to access files - can i upgrade home edition to pro and how?

You can and your question would be better answered in a Windows XP Pro

You can upgrade to pro by buying the upgrade or full version. I recommend
the full version. However as was stated earlier if you are not planning on
implementing Windows Server product to create a Domain it is not necessary.
Just go into my network network places and run the network setup wizard.
