First, don't use all caps, it is considered to be SHOUTING.

Now, your son uses "what" tool as school? Also, which version of the tool?
Also, your Subject line was cut short, are you wanting to use PowerPoint? If
so and if you have Microsoft Office (any version) you can get the PowerPoint
update. It can usually be found in the stores for around $100 in the US. The
Office 2003 applications require Windows 2000, XP, or 2003 Server. However,
the Office XP apps will run on Windows 98 and ME and, the last I looked,
many stores were still selling the Office XP applications. Also, since you
son uses this at school, I'm guessing that your son is a Student or Teacher.
If so, you may want to take a look at the Student and Teacher Edition of
Office XP and/or Office 2003 for his use on your home computer. It includes
PowerPoint and the price is much lower. I usually see it for about $149 but
have seen it on sale for $129.

Hello Sir,

I teach IT and the situation is not uncommon. First question you need to
ask yourself is do you need updates. I teach Microsoft Office '97 (Very
Old)- Microsoft Office 2003 (new). Their functionality is 90% the same. I
doubt your son needs new versions of software, or even a new PC. Old PC's
can perform most office type functions fine, but will be rubbish if your son
wants to play games. If you decide you do need a software update I would
sugget visiting a computer market where a number of different vendors
compete for your custom in the same building. These are often the cheapest
places to buy software. Have you considered buying second hand software?
As a general warning old PC's run old software fine. New pc's run old
software fine (except games). Old pc's run new software very badly as they
just do not have the necessary power. Your PC may not be able to handle
whatever updates you buy. To run new software you may need to update your
pc. in this case it is often cheaper to buy a new pc rather than upgrade a
pc if it is old. (by old I mean 4 years or more older). If you buy a new
pc some point in the future consider the value of the software that comes
with it.

Hope this helps,

Danny
