Can I use XML web service with Office 2000

I want to provide an XML web service to users of MS Office. However I want to
be backwards compatible to users of Office 2000 (as well as OfficeXP etc).

Is there any reason why I cannot provide this to Office 2K users, e.g. SOAP
issues, XML issues?
