Try using a newsreader instead of a web interface. You will find that since
it is dedicated to newsgroups it is faster and more reliable. There are
several free ones depending upon your version of Windows:

Outlook Express
Windows Mail
Thunderbird
XNews

and at least 1 really excellent paid one:

FreeAgent

a search on Bing should find all of them for you.

I use Outlook Express at home, but generally use the Microsoft web based news
reader when at work. Lately, the "Notify me of replies" has not been working
and it doesn't look like there is any effort to fix that.

If you are using the Microsoft web based discussion groups, you might try
putting "Nurse +Nancy" (without the quotes) in the "Search For:" textbox on
the web site, then select "Access Database" in the following combo box, then
click Go.
The problem with this method is that the results do not come back sorted, so
you have to check the dates for your results. And it appears that there is
some limit to the number of records that will be returned, because this
method is not returning my most recent posts (out of several thousand).

I might also suggest AccessMonster as another web based news reader.
