I HAVE BOTH OFFICE 2004 AND 2008. EXCEL 2008 HAS A BOX TO CLOSE PREFERENCES AFTER THE CHOICES HAVE BEEN MADE. MY EXCEL 2004 DOES NOT HAVE ANY SUCH CONTROL. AS A RESULT AFTER I MAKE MY CHOICES , I CAN NOT GO BACK TO EXCEL. I AM USING A 3RD PARTY PROGRAM WITH EXCEL THAT USES MACROS. THAT IU WHY I AM STILL USING THE 2004 EXCEL. ANY ADVICE WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Are you saying that the Preferences window does *not* have the Cancel & OK
buttons at its bottom right edge? If so that is something that will have to
be looked at a bit more closely.

Does pressing return close the dialog?

What is the exact update level of Office 2004? OS X?

In the mean time you can use the esc key to close the dialog but that's the
equivalent of Cancel, so no changes will be retained.
