can not Copy and paste or drag and drop a picture into word

I can not use the Copy and paste and drag and drop function of Word, Power
Point and Excell applications (all 2000 Professional, SP3 version) to insert
a picture into the same applications. The inserted file only shows as a box
with the filename in it. I have tried most of the suggested options
(unchecking Placeholder, checking Drwings in options menus etc.) in many web
sites and I am not able to solve the problem. Interestingly enough, it does
work in the Microsoft Publisher.

Also, it does work if I use the Insert>Picture>from File... option of any
of the above mentioned software applications? Any suggestions??

We've seen a number of variations on this theme over the past months. It has
always turned out to be third-party software, such as file management or
anti-virus programs, that are interfering with the Office clipboard. The
standard troubleshooting is to start Word, then Windows, in Safe Mode to see in
which mode it works correctly. Based on that, you know whether you're looking
for an Office Addin or something that's loaded in Windows.

In order to start Word 2000 in Safe Mode:
- START/Run
- Type: winword.exe /a
- Click "OK"

Word will "look funny", but you should be able to test whether copy/paste works
as you'd expect it ought.
