can not delete text lokkingbox

text is displayed in what looks like a text box that gives the user instructions on what to input into the cell, when you highlight that cell. The cell is empty so you can inpput data. The problem is that you can not edit the box, nor can you delete the contents. It is not a comment box, and the worksheet does not have any macros in it. Does anyone know what this is and how to delete it, modify it and make new ones

thisn sounds like a commen. Do you have the option 'Edit comment' if
you right-click on this cell?
