I currently migrate some W2k to XP professional PC, and when I try to access
the db using access runtime. It only allows me to open one PC at a time, and
this problem never happen to me when I running from a W2k PC, we are
currently using the Access Runtime 2000. All the computer have full admin
right and full access to the share folder. To make thing more interestingly,
when I move the database to the windows 2000/2003 server, this problem go
away, but if I just put it on a P2P PC such as XP or 2K, snap server, then
this problem occurs again, I just couldn't figure out why I can not open the
db with two PC the same time.

In XP, what about “Use Simple file sharing (Recommended)? Open “My Computerâ€,
in the menu, “Tools†– “Folder Options†– “View Tabâ€. In the Advanced
Settings list, scroll down to “Use Simple file sharing†check box.

I had this problem also. With the move to a new set of Vista computers.
What I had to do to make the database multi-user was on the shortcut to the
database put the path of the local machine's MS-Office Access then the target
of the database.
