Can not replace damaged CD purchased from Microsoft

My issue involves the replacement CD for Visio200. I purchased this product
directly from Microsoft. When a newer version was released, I purchased an
upgrade (Visio2003). In both cases I registered my version with Microsoft.
Recently, I purchased a new computer. During the installation of all the
software, I discovered the Visio2000 CD is cracked and will not install.
Thinking I could just purchase a replacement disk or just order a full
version of Vision2003, I contacted Microsoft. I was very disappointed to
hear Visio2000 is no longer stocked, but clearly understand. However, I was
extremely disappointed to learn I was not allow to purchase a version so I
could have a complete working copy of Visio.

What I have now is an upgrade version of Viso2003 and NO prior version to
upgrade! I use Visio in my work as a software engineer. I am hoping someone
from Microsoft can contact me with a solution. I DO NOTwant to purchased the
product again.

Isnt it great the way Microsoft responds so quickly to a legitimate request
to maintain viability of your product that you have purchased and paid for!

No wonder why more and more people are either resorting to hacking Windows,
or just going to Linux! And if you think that is not enough of a reason, I
dare an average user/purchaser to TRY to order Volume License Product from
MS. Hope you have a degree in Corporate BS before you do though, or you're
in for a nightmare!

TherThe customer has a few reasonable choices. Unfortunately, Visio 2000
(pre-Microsoft) is not a qualifying product to upgrade to Visio 2003. Visio
2000 SR-1 & Visio 2002 are upgrade qualifying products. Here are the options
that I know about for our customers:

1. Return the Visio 2003 upgrade product for full refund & then purchase the
full product.

2. Purchase Visio 2000 SR-1 or Visio 2002 as a qualifying product at a used
book store for significant savings over full retail cost.

3. If the customer actually has Visio 2000 SR-1 (even with damaged CD), then
call product support to request a new product key for the Visio 2003 upgrade
version which has been purchased.

There are two version of Visio 2000, the last one sold by Visio and the
first one released by Microsoft. Depending on when you bought it from
Microsoft, you may have either one. After acquiring Visio, Microsoft
released a service pack, SR1, that added all the Microsoft branding to
Visio's version of Visio 2000 and fixed a few problems. The first version of
Visio released by Microsoft was Visio 2000 SR1. If your version of Visio
2000 does not have the Microsoft labelling, you do not have SR1 and
unfortunately do not qualify to use the Visio 2003 upgrade.

Since you did buy from Microsoft, hopefully, you do have Visio 2000 SR1.
Microsoft will not replace the damaged CD, but will provide you with a new
product key for the Visio 2003 upgrade you have bought. To obtain the
product key call product support.

Hope this helps;
