Can not save as .gif

Using Outlook 2003 when I try to save a .gif file the only option I get for
save as is. .bmp. I can forward the same e-mail to myself and if I open it
with Outlook Express I have the option to save as .bmp of .gif.

What have I got set wrong in Outlook 2003 I have tried the KB and find no
answer.
