can not view powerpoint files in Internet explorer

I am attempting to view powerpoint files on a website in Internet explorer.
I don't get an error message when I chose to open (at the open, save, cancel
popup) but it just shows a blank page and I can't view anything. This is not
an entire office 2002 issue as I am able to view xls and doc files as well as
pdf. I know that this has to be a setting issue in either powerpoint or in
IE, I just don't know what it is. Any help would be appreciated.

Not all versions of Office XP (or 2002, as you call it) include
Powerpoint. Do you have Powerpoint installed on your computer?
If not, then you can download a free Powerpoint viewer from
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/126492/en-us .

Weird., I actually had something written in that last reply, oh well. Yes, I
do have powerpoint installed. I am able to download the files and then open
them in powerpoint but when trying to view the powerpoint slides in IE, they
only open as a white screen. I attempted this also at a friends house this
evening and the same thing occured on his computer, PPT files will open, but
they are just showing white screen. we both have the powerpoint viewer 2003
and powerpoint 2002 (as a part of office.) I think that it is a setting
issue of some sort in either powerpoint or IE but I have NO CLUE why (or
where to change it.)

Wonder if it's an issue with Windows XP SP2? Do you get the little "allow
this content" bar at the top of the IE window?

You could try installing the Office Animation Run-time, but you shouldn't
need to. See

When you downoad and view the PPT files are you first opening PPT and then
selecting the files?
If so, perhaps you have not set up Explorer to use PPT if a PPT file is
executed from Explorer. If that is the case, open Explorer, go to a ppt
file, right click it, choose Open With, browse to PPT or PPT viewer and
choose it to open this type file. Put a checkmark before always use this
program.

I have sp2 installed and I do get the "allow this content" pop-up. I get it
with doc and xls files as well though, so I am really at a loss. I looked
through the entire setting menu on both IE and Powerpoint to no avail. I
tried installing the office animation run-time, but that didn't help. this
is just weird, most of my logic process I go through with software 'issues'
doesn't seem to be working here.

Yea, not the issue either. I made sure that on the file menu (open with) is
selected to the appropriate program. When I "download" the ppt, I am saving
it to the computer and then there is no problem. It's when I try and open
the file on the website. And just in case someone suggests it's the website,
thought of that and used google to find aditional ppt files on the web and I
am getting the same problem with them as well.
