Can Office Document Imaging 2007 scan into an existing file?

C

CJ

I need to insert scanned images into exisiting TIFF files. The old version
of Document Imaging was able to do this, however, it appears with 2007, this
ability was removed.

Is there a way to scan an image and insert it directly into an existing
file? I do not want to have to create a new TIFF than insert that into the
exisitng file.

Thanks.

Hi C.J.,

I'm not clear on where you're seeing an additional feature in Office 20033 Document Scanning. Both Office 2003 and Office 2007
Document Scanning have a File=>Scan New Document choice, although that choice does include a prompt for additional pages choice.

You can insert an existing file into a MS Office Document Imaging File or cut and paste.

Hey Bob. Thanks for your response.

Actually, what I want to do is open an exisiting image file, than scan an
image and directly insert it at the beginning of the open file. I'd like to
avoid creating a new file and then inserting that new file at the beginning
of the existing one.

Hope that clarifies what I'm asking.

Thanks!

Hi C.J.,

The scanning choice is basically to a new file in both Office 2003 and Office 2007. What were the steps you used in Office 2003
where you were able to add a scan to an existing file?

It's possible that scanning software that came with the scanner or 3rd party can do that.

We went straight from 2000 to 2007, so that could possibly be the disconnect.
As for the steps, I cannot say because I am not the one who is actually
doing the work. I am trying to help a couple of users maintain a process
that they have become used to. I can guess the steps right now, but that
would waste all of our time. I can go ask the users, but again, at this
point, I don't think that will change the ultimate answer.

The users that are trying to do this have tried some of the other software
that came with the scanners, but are not happy with it because of other
shortcomings.

Looks like we'll have to settle for the process as it stands by creating a
new TIF image and then inserting that into the existing TIF.

Thanks so much for your help!!

Hi C.J.,

MS Office Document Imaging wasn't available in Office 2000. I'm guessing that they may have been using Windows/Wang
Labs/Kodak/eiStream/Global 360 (Kodakimg.exe) Imaging, which under its Page menu has an 'append' choice which allows you to scan
additional images into the file as you describe.

Did you also update your version of Windows from Windows 2000 to WinXP or Vista as part of the Office upgrade?

We had XP with Office 2000. We're still using XP with 2007 and are just
beginning to test Vista, so no, the Windows and Office upgrades were done
separately.

Yes, they did use the Kodak imager, as well, and it probably is what they
were thinking of, but they were pretty adamant that they've used MSDI to scan
directly into an existing image.

BTW, sorry about the duplicate posts. Everytime I submitted, the form
returned an error, and I thought it had not posted.

Thanks for all your help.
