can old posts be removed from this group

I made the mistake of using my real email address
on a previous post. I now get about 6 virus attacks
a day with different (faked)from/to addresses and various
subject lines. Having learned my lesson, is there
any way to remove that previous post to keep future
evil-doers from mining my address? (adding insult to
injury it never elicited a response anyway)?

Unfortunately, no. Eventually it will scroll off the server, but it will be
archived forever at Google. You *can* however request that it be removed
from Google (and if, as you say, it elicited no response, there will not be
any issue of its being quoted in another thread). See
