can only open an .MDB read-only on XP Home

I just built a new box and installed XP Home. I created a limited user
account for the family to use. I'm having a problem opening our PIM which I
wrote in access. First, I had to set the security to allow unsafe code to
run (using the Administrator account) before I could open the file. Now I
can open it but only read-only. Any idea what's wrong and how to fix it?

Thx,

Bob

While Access is not running, use the Windows Explorer ("My Computer") to
locate the database file.

Right-click, and choose Properties. Uncheck the Read Only checkbox.

Have you employed Access security, i.e. an MDW file (not just the macro
security that you have already disabled)?

If so, you may need to copy your MDW file from your old system, and specify
it in the shortcut you use to open this file.

No I hadn't. Should I?

Thanks,

Bob

No: there is generally no need to set up security, but it is a possible
reason why permissions could be read-only.

Not sure what else to suggest, Bob.

Perhaps you could go to support.microsoft.com, and do a search of the
knowledge base for your version of Access and the exact phrase Read Only.
For example, that brings up 73 hits for Access 2000.

Figured it out. I moved the .MDB file to a directory under \My Documents
and it works fine. Apparently, Home protects all folders/files not in or
under \My Documents.
