Can people without access 2003 on their PC run access application

D

David Clifford

I have developed an application that I would like to distibute to other
users, some of whom don't have Access on their computers. Is this possible or
do I need to purchase a licence for each of them?

Many Thanks

Dear David:

Your users will need a copy of Access on their computers. You might want to
consider purchasing a copy of the "Developer's Edition" of Access, which
provides you with a royalty free runtime version of Access which you package
with your application. This link gives you more information (I always get
confused about exactly what the Developer's Edition for Access 2003 was
called... <g>)

David,

You can install the runtime version of Access on your colleagues' computer.
They will be able to run the application but they will not be able to change
the forms/tables/queries and reports.

Download the runtime version from the Microsoft website. Your users will
need to click on the icon for your application. It is also possible to set
the runtime so that the application automatically loads when the runtime is
activated. All users can hit the same application if that is what you want -
check the instructions for using the runtime version.

David,
What version Access are you using? You must purchase the runtime for
that version. If you are using MS Access XP (2002) or 2003 it will
cost you @$600 US for the runtime program. Note, if you purchase MS
Access 2007, the runtime creating capabilities are free. I had MS
Access 2003, and upgraded to MS Access 2007 for @ $100. From what I
have read, MS Access 2003 will work with MS 2007 runtime. I have yet
tested it with my databases, but will shortly. If anyone out there
has already done this let me know - please!
