Can PPT do fades and other razzle dazzle on pix or slides?

Yes.

The later the version, the more razzle, the more dazzle.
I have 2007, but will need to move the ppt file to 2003 for my laptop
pitch. Where do I find out about the r and d?

That wasn't too hard. Use Animation. Kind of an unfortunate name.

In Powerpoint 2003:

Use 'Slide show' 'Custom Animations'. Click on the slide to select it. At
the right-hand side of the screen select the animation you need under 'Add
Effect' for 'Entrance' and 'Exit'. In your case select 'Fade' or perhaps
'Fade Zoom'. That then presents you with a drop-down menu of timings.

Yep, you're sure right about that. Maybe Animation should be called
Transitions. ;-)
