I have Office Professional XP installed on my home PC that I purchased in
January 2004. I have just purchased a Lap top for mobility purposes, etc.
Can I now install the same Office XP on this personal Laptop. Does Microsoft
allow the use of their software on more than one personal computer or laptop?

It varies.
You need to read your EULA to determine what you can do with respect to
multiple installation.
In general, OEM versions can only be installed on the original computer.
Retail version can be installed on multiple computers as described in your
EULA.

Since I have the same situation(my laptop Hdd died so in order to read my
Word/Excel files I purchased office SE; now the new drive in the laptop only
uses Wrdpd and some spreadsheet.), I need to know what is and how to find a
Eula. Also how to find my way back to this discussion.

I meant to say that I purchased Office SE so I could read my
laptop-created(newish excel, Word) on my PC which only had Excel 4.0 and
Wordpad. I have not installed the new purchased software on the PC and could
install it on the laptop but I'd like to have it available(Word, newer Excel)
on the PC if the laptop should fail again and vice versa. What and where is
the Eula? Many thanks for reading through all of this.
