I have a brand new laptop. I have comcast cable at home for my ISP. I use
outlook 2002 on the laptop and at home. I have Norton Works loaded.

I have disabled scanning outgoing email.
I have have Norton firewall enabled.

I have set up outlook as prescribed by comcast help links.

I have changed the server ports to 465 for outgoing and 995 for incoming.
I have SSL required for both out and incoming mail.

when I try to send email, it fails and I get the following message:

Task 'mail.comcast.net - Sending and Receiving' reported error (0x8004210B)
: 'The operation timed out waiting for a response from the sending (SMTP)
server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server
administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

Can someone PLEASE help me find an answer to this problem.

See if these articles help:

You receive the "'Sending and Receiving' reported error (0x8004210B)" error
message when you send SMTP mail messages by using a POP3 account and SSL in
Outlook 2002

You receive the "The operation timed out waiting for a response from the
sending (SMTP) server" error message when you use a POP3 account and SSL to
send SMTP e-mail in Outlook 2002 and in Outlook 2003

(the last reply didn't seem to go through, sorry if this is a repeat)

I don't have Office XP on that machine, it is just office 2002. Does that
make a difference since your link for solution talks about downloading
updates for Office XP. which when I tried was unsuccessful because I don't
have Office XP on the machine.

I sure hope you have a solution, I really rely on Outlook at home, and I
need to have the same email program on the road as I do at home.

I don't have office XP on this machine. Your answer makes it sound like your
solution is for Office XP. I have tried to do the update thing but since I
do not have Office XP it wouldn't complete the update.

I still can't send emails with Outlook 2002 while away from home.
