Can receive but not send emails

Task '(e-mail address removed) - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC78) : 'Unable to
send the message. Please verify the e-mail address in your account
properties. The server responded: 530 5.7.0 No AUTH command has been given.'
That is the error message I receive when trying to send a message from
Outlook 2003, from a POP acct. Test messages at first were sent
successfully, but now I only get the pop-up requiring me to repeatedly enter
my user name and password, despite always re-checking the 'remember user name
and password' box. This program worked yesterday. Nothing has been changed
on this computer between yesterday and today except that we are now in
December instead of November (surely that's not it).

In Outlook, go to Tools | Account Settings and select new (you may want to
verify your current settings). After creation is complete, set the new
account as your default. I had the same issue not long ago and it was
related to my password (which hadn't changed in years). Probably a corrupted
account.

See if enabling authentication for the SMTP server solves your issue;

Also do you have a virus scanner installed which integrates itself with
Outlook? Uninstall this integration part of your virus scanner and try
again; you'd still be sufficiently protected by your on-access scanner part
of the virus scanner. For more details see;

First, Tools>Account Settings is for Outlook 2007 and Mssr. Bird (the original
poster) definitely mentioned Outlook 2003. Second, he doesn't need a new
account to verify the settings, which the problem most likely entails. Most
likely, it's a failure to prpoperly authenticate to the outgoing server or
interference from his antivirus program.
