Can the computer read emails outloud?

Yesterday, I was typing a response to an email I had received. While I was
typing the response, my computer started reading the sender's original email
to me. I don't know how this happened and I am wondering how one gets the
computer to read the emails outloud. Does anyone out there know the answer?
I am using Microsoft outlook.

Windows XP with Office installed can do that, yes. See the Sounds, Speech,
and Audio Devices link in Control Panel.
