yes... the newsgroup name is microsoft.public.outlook.general and after
adding the msnews server, you right click on the server name and choose
Newsgroups... then search for outlook.general and subscribe. If you need
more detailed assistance, see OE's Help or see if
http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com has the information you need.

Not sure what you mean by direct link. The newsgroup is the same one you see
in the web interface. You have to subscribe to groups using a newsreader -

Hi ... Its cool i found what i was searching for .... What i meant was a link
something like this URL below for which you are able to just click on a group
and it will be add onto outlook express newsreader ... Also when you use the
newsreader search selection it doesn't show the whole title of the group ,
newsreader search only shows half of the title of the group >> Example >>>
microsoft.publi.acce <<<

thsi link is much better to use >>> http://aumha.org/nntp.htm

The link to get to just the group would be:

news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.outlook.general
or
nntp://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.outlook.general

The latter is the correct format but the first one might work. They
specify the news server along with the group. However, this will create
yet another tree node for the same server (i.e., another account) even
if the user has already defined an account for that same news server (so
its use can be considered rude). I don't know if all newsreaders
support the nntp:// URL format. If you want to provide a link to a
specific newsgroup or a specific post then use the *relative* URL form:

ftp://ftp.rfc-editor.org/in-notes/rfc1738.txt, section 3.6, describes
the relative URL scheme. Notice where it says in that section, "The
news URLs are unusual in that by themselves, they do not contain
sufficient information to locate a single resource, but, rather, are
location-independent." That means the NNTP server is not specified.
Your NNTP client will hunt through whatever NNTP servers it has defined
to find the group or post. That's why you need to read section 3.7 on
the NNTP protocol. For example:

nntp://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.outook.general/[email protected]

takes the user to your first post in this thread using whatever is
designated their currently assigned NNTP client (OE, in your case). If
the user doesn't have a news account named "msnews.microsoft.com" then a
new account is created (that is why this format is rude) by that server
name. If the user happens to have an account to that server and with
the same name for the account as the server then their existing account
gets reused. The post is selected but the group for it is not
subscribed. You'll have to do the subscribing yourself to the group.
It is more polite to simply send them the following link:

As noted in section 3.7, the nntp:// protocol prefix may not always
work.

I'm trying to access the list of newsgroups available on google
servers through Outlook 2002 without success. Is the NNTP
"newsgroup.google.com" ? if so, it can't connect and show the list of
available newsgroup. Any help greatly appreciated.

I don't use that - use msnews.microsoft.com in your newsreader. Much easier.
Much better. Google doesn't have an NNTP server that I know of, and their
cache of MS newsgroups isn't very all-encompassing.

Don't use Google Groups. Use a newsreader client, as I suggested. Use
msnews.microsoft.com for all the MS public newsgroups.
