can you leave outlook running and access it from your tool bar or something?
That way U can close the window without closing the program and still know
when your getting messages?

Depends on the version of Outlook which you did not mention. When
asking for help, always mention the version of whatever software it is
that you are asking about or reference in your post. Mentioning the
operating system and its version is also often helpful.

Outlook 2002 requires a registry edit to make it minimize to a tray
icon. Don't know if it works on Outlook 2000, and probably doesn't work
on any older versions, like 95, 97, or 98. There are some utilities or
add-ons that will offer a configurable option to do the registry change
so you don't have to go into regedit.exe.

Outlook 2003 and 2007 will minimize to a tray icon by simply
right-clicking on its tray icon (when Outlook is running) and selecting
the option to do the minimize to tray icon.

It is also possible to use 3rd party windowing management utilities to
force an application to minimize to a tray icon. 4t Tray Minimizer is
one.

Right click the icon in the notification area and select Hide When
Minimized. Outlook will still be accessible by double clicking this icon,
