Dan,
You can't import the WBS field to create the hierarchy (indented list) in
Project. You would need to convert the WBS number to the Outline Level field
which can be used to define the indentations in Project when importing.
However, we make the WBS Chart Pro software and are working on a new version
of our software (version 5.0) that allows you to create hierarchical
structures from Excel files. You can import any Excel file that contains a
hierarchy (a dot-separated format like 1, 1.1, 1.2, etc or by using a
"parent" field) to create a WBS structure. This WBS structure can then be
transferred to MS Project. It's all very seamless and quick... If you are
not familar with WBS Chart Pro, it's a MS Project add-on that produces WBS
charts from MS Project or from scratch, details at
www.criticaltools.com.
You (or anyone else who wants to try it) can download a pre-release (beta)
copy of WBS Chart Pro version 5.0 at
www.criticaltools.com/wbspro5. This
pre-release copy expires on May 31st but contact me to extend this if you
need it.
Let me know how it goes.
Thanks.
