can word 2000 read word xp documents

I am looking at buying office xp but we will still need to read the files
that are created in word xp using office 2000. Is this possible or do we
need to upgrade all of our office 2000 to office xp.

Word 2K can read Word 2002 (XP) documents. However, if the 2002 document
contains -new- features, then those will not be displayed in Word 2k.
Additionally, if you open a Word 2002 document in Word 2K, then save it, any
Word 2002-only features will be lost.
